A few nights ago, I got to hang out with the sweetest family of three- Mandy, Joel, and their energetic, hilarious little guy, George. They showed up with the coolest surprise for their session: a 1965 Rambler that looked straight out of a classic movie set. Honestly, I thought for sure that car would steal the show… until George arrived on the scene.
At almost three years old, George had his own ideas about how the evening should go and it mostly involved talk of all things Halloween, not necessarily looking at the camera, and definitely making up his own rules as we went along. But honestly, that’s the magic of photographing toddlers. You never quite know what you’re going to get, and that’s what makes it so much fun.
The session title, The Way Way Back, felt so fitting, not just because of that vintage Rambler, but because it brought me right back to childhood memories of riding around in old station wagons, giant Suburbans, and mini vans with three rows, packed full of siblings, snacks, and laughter. There was always something about sitting in “the way way back”; the sense of adventure, the freedom, the fun of seeing the world in reverse through that back window.
Between the nostalgic vibes, the fall light, and George’s big personality, this session turned into something really special. These are the moments I love most, when families come ready to play, laugh, and let the chaos of real life shine through.
